5th & 12th -- Woodcut Printing Workshops with Monster Gallery (Part I & II)
2pm ~ 4 pm @ BooksActually

The woodcut is one of the oldest forms of printmaking, dated back
to the second century A.D. In this two-session hands-on workshop, you
will learn how to create your own design and make it into a woodcut print.

6th -- Sashiko Embroidery Sewing Workshops with Cookie Cutter
2 pm ~ 5 pm @ BooksActually

In this workshop, participants will learn how to make a zipper pouch (with lining)
from scratch using cute fabrics, pom pom trimmings and lace. You will also gain an
understanding of other basic sewing techniques.

Additionally, you'll be introduced to basic Sashiko embroidery (a very old form
of Japanese hand sewing), which can be used in your future sewing projects for
decorative purposes.

18th -- Writing Workshop with Verena Tay :
Perspectives : Seeing New, Writing New

Fret no more! Perspectives can help! This workshop will use physical-based
techniques that will challenge you to perceive the world differently as well
as give new impetus to your writing. Whether you are a new or seasoned writer,
you will definitely benefit from gaining fresh Perspectives on life. Be prepared
to move and be moved!

19th -- Writing Workshop with Jason Erik Lundberg :
Winnowing Memories through Speculative Means
2 pm ~ 5 pm @ BooksActually

Preserving memories is an issue often explored in speculative fiction (science
fiction, fantasy, horror, and all associated subgenres), whether through a techno-
logical process of uploading to a computer like in Cory Doctorow's Down and Out
in the Magic Kingdom, or through the magical Pensieve in the Harry Potter novels
by JK Rowling.

This introductory workshop will give participants an understanding of the conventions
and approaches used in examining the concept of memory in good SF writing. Participants
will explore the SF tropes and techniques used, and apply these to their own fiction through
various exercises. They will also examine the mistakes beginning SF writers should avoid,
apply two or more SF tropes in the creation of a premise, ground their settings in the real
world, and write a solid opening to a SF short story.

26th -- Alternative Printing Workshops with Monster Gallery
2 pm ~ 4 pm @ BooksActually

JoE from Monster Gallery shows you the secret of making gorgeous
prints using inexpensive, ordinary, and unexpected material !
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to :

i. design and print your own book cover using everyday objects.
ii. make a relief print without using any carving tools.

Suitable for all ages, from absolute beginners to those with some
experience in printmaking, no cutting or carving is required in this
workshop.
Materials are provided for the workshop. Participants will be given
a blank notebook and paper to make their prints.
